From July 1, 2021, paternity and childcare leave will be increased to 25 calendar days (or 32 days in the case of multiple births), plus 3 days' birth leave.
The scheme will apply to children :
- born on or after July 1, 2021,
- whose birth was scheduled to take place on or after July 1, 2021, even if they were born before that date.
The 25-day leave is divided into two periods:
- an initial period of 4 consecutive calendar days, immediately following the birth leave, which is compulsory;
- a second period of 21 split days, to be taken within 6 months of the birth. This leave may be split into 2 periods, the minimum duration of which may not be less than 5 days(example: 5 days + 16 days).
The employee may take his entire paternity leave in one go if he so wishes. The employee must inform his employer:
- of the expected date of delivery at least 1 month before;
- of the dates and durations of the paternity leave period(s) at least 1 month before the start of each period.
During paternity leave, the parent receives daily social security benefits under the same conditions as for maternity leave. There is no employer's top-up, unless otherwise stipulated in the collective bargaining agreement.
